Viola Luigi De Giorgi started learning music from a very young age with his grandfather and also with professor Salvatore Barone. Having attained the viola diploma at the Bellini Conservatoire of Palermo, he took further courses, held by professors Piero Farulli and Carlo Pozzi, at the Fiesole School of Music.
In 1993, he was a full member of the Italian National Youth Orchestra when conducted by Luciano Berio during its tour of Italy and the rest of Europe. Winner of national and international prizes, he attained post-graduate diplomas at the "Scuola Superiore di Studi Musicali" at the Ars Nova of Palermo, and at the "Campus Internazionale di Musica" of Sermoneta with maestro Reiner Schmidt, performing at the final concert of the best students. He is viola soloist of the Zephyr Chamber Ensemble which has performed concerts at important contemporary music festivals including the Europa Festival in Rome (1993) and the International Festival of Contemporary Music in Warsaw (1994). Besides collaborating with important symphony and opera orchestras, including the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, the Orchestra of Teatro Massimo of Palermo, the Italian Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orchestra of Teatro Massimo Bellini of Catania (also during its important tours of Russia and Japan), he has held chamber music concerts for important music associations and live televised broadcasts for the Italian network (Rai 1).
Since 2003 he holds the permanent position of Assistant Principal Viola, of the Orchestra of Teatro Massimo Bellini, Catania, and its Philharmonic Orchestra. |
